Chhetri weddings share the same Vedic foundation as Brahmin rites, carried through generations of Nepal's Khas-Arya families with their own distinct order and etiquette. Music, procession, and hospitality matter as much as the rites themselves — a Chhetri wedding is as much about how the two families welcome each other as it is about the vows exchanged.
The traditional process
Every family follows this in its own order — we plan around the version yours keeps.

Before the groom's party departs, elders offer a ceremonial plate — egg, dried fish, and a sip of raksi — wishing the journey well.

The janti (wedding procession) sets out to panche baja music, led by the groom, toward the bride’s home or venue.

The bride's family welcomes the janti at the gate with a short ritual of rice, tika, and flowers before anyone steps inside.

The same Vedic core as Brahmin rites — the father gives away the bride, and the couple takes their vows around the sacred fire.

The groom applies sindoor and ties the pote (glass-bead necklace) around the bride's neck, right there at the mandap.

The newlyweds touch the feet of elders on both sides in turn, receiving blessings and, often, small gifts.

The bride's departure for her new home — the closing, bittersweet moment of the day.
